From Raising Food for Ourselves to Raising It for You

We’re Jason and Jen, the husband-and-wife team behind Cocks & Squeals Farm.

We both grew up on farms and knew firsthand the difference between food raised close to home and what often ends up on a grocery-store shelf.

Years later, after living in town, we found ourselves missing that flavour, quality and connection to where our food came from. So we started raising our own again.

Where It Started

It Started With a Few Laying Hens

Our farming journey as adults began on 21 acres just north of Calgary.

At first, the goal was simple: raise better food for our own family.

We started with laying hens for fresh eggs. Then came Kunekune pigs. They were a great fit for the property because they are naturally strong grazers and were easier on the pasture than more aggressive rooting breeds.

From there, the farm kept growing. We raised and processed our own meat chickens and spent several years raising quail, including young birds and hatching eggs that quickly developed a strong local following.

What started as a way to feed ourselves gradually became something much bigger.

When the City Caught Up With the Farm

Sometimes the Next Chapter Chooses You

Calgary was growing quickly, and eventually that growth caught up with our little farm. Development was moving closer and closer, and it became clear that staying there long-term was no longer realistic.

After a long search, we found the property we had been hoping for just east of Strathmore and made the move in August 2026.

The new farm gave us more land, established fencing, a heated barn and room to grow.

Like every farm, it is still very much a work in progress. There is always another fence to improve, another system to build, another project to make life easier for the animals, or for us. But it gave us the opportunity to do something we had wanted to do for years:

Raise enough high-quality food to share it with other families too.

Meet Our Team

Jen

Jen holds a Diploma in Agriculture Business from Olds College and spent many years working in the livestock feed and consulting industry.

Her background includes livestock nutrition, grazing management, land management, farm finances and marketing.

That experience plays a major role in how we feed our animals, manage our pastures and make decisions about how the farm grows.

Jason

Jason is the farm’s mechanic, fixer and problem-solver.

If something breaks, leaks, stops running or needs to be built differently, there is a very good chance Jason is the one dealing with it.

His mechanical background keeps equipment, infrastructure and countless farm projects moving forward.

He is also exceptionally good with the animals, which matters just as much around here as knowing how to fix a machine.

Only One Bad Day!

We believe our animals deserve the best life possible, every single day! They are given fresh air, good pasture, and the time and space to behave the way nature intended.

Because they only get one bad day, the day of their final purpose.

Real Food Raised With Care

Heritage-Breed

Pasture Pork

Rich, flavourful pork from heritage-breed pigs raised outdoors with room to root, forage and explore.

Heritage breeds are known for their deeper flavour and excellent eating quality, and all of our pigs receive corn- and soy-free feed.

Free-Range Eggs

Fresh eggs from hens with room to roam, scratch and forage outdoors when conditions allow.

Our chickens are fed corn- and soy-free feed and raised with flavour, nutrition and quality of life in mind.

Hatching Eggs

Seasonal hatching eggs from carefully selected farm-raised breeding flocks.

Our breeding birds receive the same attentive care and corn- and soy-free feed as the rest of our animals.

More From

the Farm

We are just getting started. More thoughtfully raised and farm-grown products will be added as the farm grows.

Better Animals. Better Land.

Healthy animals start with healthy land. We rotate pastures, build soil and work with nature, not against it.

Good stewardship today means better food for our family, your family and for generations to come.

When We Aren't Farming

You'll find us outside, camping under the stars, casting a line in the lake, or just relaxing in our yard.

These moments remind us why we do what we do and keep us grounded in what matters most, family and simple living.

We Don't Just Tell You How We Farm. We Show You
